JCWR AT STUDIO SCHOOL ANNOUNCES 2018 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
February 25, 2018 By John Bucher
The 2018 Joseph Campbell Scholarship winners have been announced.
This year’s winners include Nathalya Lopez, Bella Mashanski, Elwood Walker, and Gregory Alexander Foltynowicz. Studio School and the Joseph Campbell Foundation have acknowledged the unique talent and potential of these storytellers by offering them the first ever Joseph Campbell Scholarship for fine artists. This is an annual award of $4000. Dr. Will Linn, Executive Director of the JCWR and Chair of Studio School’s General Education Department recently communicated to the winners the weight of the prestigious scholarship, mentioning “Joseph Campbell, to say it simply, is one of the most important storytelling gurus in the history of filmmaking. Above all, he was a mythologist. Most famously, he was George Lucas’ personal mentor, “Yoda” and “Dr. Jones.”
The pervasive impact of Joseph Campbell was recently referenced in an article in Indiewire. His legacy is preserved by the Joseph Campbell Foundation, which was founded by his wife, Jean Erdman, and editor, Bob Walter. Seeing Studio School’s commitment to a worldclass learning environment for storytellers, JCF has granted Studio School permission to create The Joseph Campbell Writers’ Room and Joseph Campbell Scholarships. Walter personally selected winners from a list of scholarship finalists, which were chosen by Glenn Kalison, founder and president of Studio School, and Linn, executive director of the Joseph Campbell Writers’ Room.
