NEW MOON

In astronomy, the new moon is the first lunar phase, when the Moon and Sun have the same ecliptic longitude. At this phase, the lunar disk is not visible to the unaided eye, but its presence may be detected because it occults stars behind it. The astronomical new moon, sometimes known as the dark moon to avoid confusion, occurs by definition at the moment of conjunction in ecliptical longitude with the Sun when the Moon is invisible from the Earth. This moment is unique and does not depend on location, and in certain circumstances, it coincides with a solar eclipse.

This moment is unique and does not depend on location, and in certain circumstances, it coincides with a solar eclipse.
During the new moon Phase, the nights are dark as they’re illuminated only by the natural light of stars and other celestial objects. The naked eye cannot identify the moon’s proper position during this time. This is due to the fact that the new moon blends in entirely with the darkness between the stars.

During this time, the new moon controls our mind and emotions and makes us mimic its behaviour. Like the absence of the Sun’s light reflecting off the new moon, our awareness becomes easily darkened and hidden from view – especially around emotional and primal matters. Although the new moon may be hidden from sight, we should never underestimate its powerful influence upon us. The new moon marks the beginning of a 27-day cycle of fast-moving lunar phases that swell to the radiance of the full phase, before waning back to the darkness of another new moon. The new moon also marks the first of what most agree are the two major milestones in the lunar phases: new moon and full moon.
[The new moon] happens when the moon is between the sun and the earth. The illuminated side of the moon is facing towards the sun and away from the earth, which makes it completely invisible, merging into the dark night. The new moon marks the ending of the waning cycle of the lunar phase. There is a lot of significance to the New Moon in various religions and it is seen as the beginning of a new cycle.
At around the last waning crescent, dark, or dark Moon phases, and when you are bleeding, the last of the four feminine energy types reveals herself , asking for embodiment: meet the Crone, or the Wise Inner Woman.

This archetype is probably the least valued of all by people in our modern culture. She represents aging, and the loss of fertility, external beauty, and activity.
New moon occurs when the Moon is between Earth and the Sun, and thus the side of the Moon that is in shadow faces Earth.
