MYTHOLOGY OF PISCES

Pisces, (Latin: “Fishes”) in astronomy, zodiacal constellation in the northern sky between Aries and Aquarius, at about 1 hour right ascension and 15° north declination. The vernal equinox, the point where the Sun’s annual apparent path takes it north of the celestial equator and from which celestial longitude and right ascension are measured, lies in Pisces. The constellation contains only faint stars without any striking grouping; the brightest star, Eta Piscium, has a magnitude of 3.6. In astrology, Pisces is the 12th sign of the zodiac, considered as governing the period from about February 19 to about March 20.

Pisces In some classifications, a superclass of the Gnathostomata (jawed chordates) comprising the fishes (compare Tetrapoda). The whole body of a fish is covered with a tough, usually scaly, skin (see scales), which extends over the eye and contains pigments and sometimes slime glands. The circulatory system is a single circuit with blood passing through two sets of capillaries, one at the gills and the other in the body tissues. Three semicircular canals are present in the inner ear.
Pisces is a constellation of the zodiac. Its vast bulk – and main asterism viewed in most European cultures per Greco-Roman antiquity as a distant pair of fishes connected by one cord each that join at an apex – are in the Northern celestial hemisphere. Its name is the Latin plural for fish. It is between Aquarius, of similar size, to the southwest and Aries, which is smaller, to the east. The ecliptic and the celestial equator intersect within this constellation and in Virgo. This means the sun passes directly overhead of the equator, on average, at approximately this point in the sky, at the March equinox.
THE IKHTHYOKENTAUROI (Ichthyocentaurs) were a pair of centaurine sea-gods with the upper bodies of men, the lower fore-quarters of horses, and the serpentine tails of fish. Their brows were crowned with a pair of lobster-claw horns. The fish-centaurs were named Bythos (Sea-Depths) and Aphros (Sea-Foam). They were brothers of the wise kentauros Kheiron (centaur Chiron) and like him were perhaps regarded as wise teachers.
Pisces lies between Aries constellation to the east and Aquarius to the west. The two celestial fish represent Venus and Cupid in Roman mythology, who transformed themselves into fish in order to escape the monster Typhon. The Vernal equinox, the point at which the Sun moves to the northern hemisphere across the equator every year, is currently located in Pisces.
